  • Do you know how Realtors get paid?

  • Typically when you sell your home, you pay 6% of the home price to Realtors (3% to the Listing Agent, and 3% to the Buyer's Agent).

  • If your house sells for $700K, that would be $42,000 in Realtor expenses.

  • As your Listing Agent, my $10K flat fee will save you $11,000 in this scenario (3% commission on a $700K house sale is $21K).

  • If you are BUYING a house, typically your agent representing you gets paid 3% from the SELLER.

  • Recently there was a lawsuit involving the National Assoc. of Realtors (NAR) that now prohibits the Buyer's Agent commission from being disclosed on the MLS.

  • This means Buyer's Agents no longer know what their commission on a specific house will be without asking.

  • This COULD result in buyers compensating their Realtors out-of-pocket if commission is not offered from the seller, OR

  • The Buyer's Agent may need to submit their compensation along with your offer.

  • This is new territory and would be good to discuss with your Realtor.

Buying a home?
Did you know some agents charge hidden fees?

  • Typically Buyer's Agents get paid 3% from the seller of the home you want to purchase. Your contract with your Realtor may require you to pay the full 3% in the event the seller doesn't.

  • Your Realtor may boast having a savvy transaction coordinator available to you, while also charging that fee to you in their representation agreement.

  • Historically, Realtors have been paid 3% when helping you sell a home and 3% when helping you buy a home. Sticking to this norm could be considered as a form of price fixing.
